Jun i is one of the best Japanese restaurants in Montreal, if not the best in our opinion. Chef Junichi Ikematsu is not only one of the city’s best chefs, he’s also trained many of the city’s best too. The delicacy of the plates, the freshness of the products and the attention to detail is incomparable. Jun i, set in a chic and tranquil environment is amongst the priciest restaurants in town, but it’s always well worth the cost. Consider Jun i to to mark a special occasion or to share an exceptional meal with someone you really appreciate. Open for lunch from Tuesday to Friday and in the evening from Monday to Saturday.
I went to Jun I with my wife last week, we ordered Omakase set. It’s a five course meal. Each dish was carefully made with ingredients that nicely complemented each other. The main dish sushi was properly made and the fish stayed intact with the sushi rice, and the texture of the rice was just right and tasted nice with variety of fishes. Only thing I hope to see is the Tuna can be better as it lacks the freshness of the fish taste. Consider the location of Montreal from Japan, Jun I is definitely top one in town for quality sushi.

Japanese Restaurants Gomomi Ramen is an original variation of the famous Tantanmen Ramen. The Tantanmen Ramen roots come from the Shichuan province of the 19th century “Tan Tan” refers to the shoulder pole that was used to carry the noodles across china. Tantanmen reached Japan later on into the 20th century with greater focus on thicker noodles and the sesame & chili paste.
Our Gomami Ramen combines a rich sesame paste, ground pork and a spicy chili paste. Our Ramen is often described as creamy with a nutty twist. Topped with green onions, an egg, Earwood mushrooms and our famous in house made ramen noodles, we guarantee you will be screaming for more with every bite.
I have tried many ramen places in Montreal and this is by far the best I’ve been to! Great proportions and ingredients (many of which are usually extra in other ramen places). The seasoning that they give you separately (shown in the picture) is the cherry on the top. It’s pickled ginger, sesame, hot chili and grated garlic (again it’s usually extra in other places). Great service. Servers speak English and French fluently. Really a hidden gem!

The ramen was very tasty, and I loved the bao! Service was friendly and helpful. I couldn’t give a 5 star review as three things we were planning to order; they were out of. We were really looking forward to shrimp, and I have never tried authentic kimchi, so I was disappointed that there was none. First time eating ramen, and I really enjoyed it.

What is Ramen? It is another Japanese soul food. You could enjoy it either at fancy restaurant or at Ramen cart on the street in Japan. No matter where you decide to eat, broth soup is very important for Ramen. Our broth soup contains a variety of fresh ingredients. It takes a certain amount of time to make it and it requires a lot of patience and love & soul. Our broth soup matches well with our signature homemade noodles which are absolutely NO MSG. There are Chicken, Pork and Vegetable broth.
It’s a combination of take-out food and grocery store! It’s such a cute concept. My food was really filling and really tasty. It was very well packed and a good quantity for the price. My friend’s food was a little pricier for less quantity, but it basically *looked* a little fancier.
They have a good variety of random sweets and snacks. The ones we chose did not taste as good as expected, but were super fun nonetheless. It was a good experience – I would recommend trying it out. I do wish they have a dine-in option though.

A perennial classic. Kazu is one of our favourite restaurants for beautifully presented, delicious and inexpensive food! Always packed to the brim, the Izakaya serves inventive takes on small Japanese delicacies in a fun and warm atmosphere. The place is casual, but the quality of the plates is quite sophisticated, despite the low prices. While each dish prepared by the extraordinary chef Kazuo Akutsu is excellent we have a particular fondness for the Japanese pancake, dumplings, carpaccio and shrimp burger. There is often a line, but the food is so good that people usually eat very, very quickly.
This restaurant is more like an Izakaya, given the cramped seating and their tapas-filled menu. I ordered around eight dishes, and while I loved how fast it was all served, the table honestly didn’t have the space to accommodate everything. The saving grace here is the food quality; everything I ordered was delicious, and I’d say, just worth the price and waiting outside.
